Guarding Your Heart

Above all else, guard your heart, for it affects everything you do.
Proverbs 4:23

Protecting your heart is a serious matter especially if your heart has been broken before.
Many things other than romance can cause you heartache. You might experience the death of a friend, the anger of a child, the loss of the job that you really enjoyed, or not achieving a goal. You will come across many things in your life that can damage your heart in a number of ways. The best you can do is try to protect yourself.
You also need to pray for God's protection. Ask Him to be with you when you feel uncertain about a situation, to strengthen and renew you and help you to move on. Stay totally connected to the One who wants your heart to be blessed always.

A Taste of Self-control
Lord, I have trouble protecting my heart. I pray that You will renew my spirit and keep me safe in Your presence. Amen

Speaking from the Heart

"For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks."
Matthew 12:34

Speaking from the heart is not the same as just talking. When you do feel passionate about a topic it's a whole different conversation. You're involved and listening attentively, your body is poised because you don’t want to miss a ward.
In much the same way you can speak passionately about compassion. When you speak from the heart with kindness and love toward those around you, you make a positive impression on your listeners and bless them with your words. Speaking from the heart is about you sharing the deeper intentions of your heart and mind with others.
Today, listen to what your heart has to say.

Creating the Right Heart

"You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength."
Mark 12:30 NLT

The world can be a confusing place and sometimes we feel uncertain about the future or how to handle change.
Confucius said, "To put the world in order, we must first put the nation in order; to put the nation in order, we must put the family in order; to put the family in order, we must first set our hearts right."
We're in the process of setting out hearts right. Jesus said that we should seek God with all of our heart, mind and soul.
Today is a great day to do some housecleaning. Give yourself a chance to sweep out cobwebs of doubt and worry, and ask God to help you create a more loving heart so that you can help improve the future by creating a more fruitful present.

A Taste of Love
Lord, create a clean heart in me today and renew a right spirit within me so that I can love You more. Amen.

Don't Lose Heart!

"Look! Here I stand at the door and knock. If you hear Me calling and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal as friends."
Revelation 3:20 NLT

There are times when we simply lose heart because of the things going on around us. We don't care as much about others, we can't really hear God not matter how loudly He may be knocking at our door. We're simply not able to serve the needs of anyone, especially ourselves.
If your heart needs repairing, ask God to heal it and move on. There are a lot of good things that you need to know and a lot of good people waiting to connect with you.
Even more important is the Spirit of your Heavenly Father who is waiting to remind you that He is always available. He will help you in any way so that you can continue joyfully. Don't lose heart, the Lord is there for you.

Lord, help me to lean on You today. My heart needs Your rejuvenating power. Amen

Follow Your Heart

For the LORD sees every heart and understands and knows every plan and thought. If you seek Him, you will find Him.
1 Chronicles 28:9 NLT

People often advise you to follow your heart, but it's not that easy.
How do you follow your heart when it's tied to someone else's heart or in conflict with someone else's goals? Let's say you get a great job in another city, but your gown-up children are not happy because you'll have to move and they like having you nearby. Ultimately, you have to follow your heart and go where you feel you need to be so that your own goals can be accomplished.
Not even the wisest of us have all the answers. Ask God to lead you on the path He has planned for your life. Then to follow your heart will be easy.

Lord, it isn't always easy to figure out of the next steps or the wisest course of action. Help me to follow You and create each step according to Your wisdom. Amen

The Heart of Honesty

"As for you, if you walk before Me in integrity of heart and uprightness … and do all I command, I will establish your royal throne over Israel forever."
1 Kings 9:4-5

Whatever happened to integrity? Do you remember when you when you were growing up and your mom insisted that you had to tell the truth even when you knew that you were going to get into trouble. Well, you told the truth anyway.
Somewhere along the way, a lot of people have forgotten the values they were raised with. They've forgotten that it's still important to tell the truth and to be honest with others. In a world that is learning not to trust and uphold the values it was intended to have, you're being asked to look at yourself and decide if you present truth squarely and fairly each day.
Honesty is a virtue you need to nurture. You'll be glad when you do … honest!

Lord, let the sweet fruit of honesty come from my heart and my lips in all my actions and interactions with others and especially with you. Amen

Set the Bar a Little Higher

"What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?"
Mark 8:36

If you watch an athlete do a pole vault or a high jump, they set the bar a little higher before jumping again. Each time they reach for a higher goal.
It's good to see where we've set the bar for our own goals and standards. How hard do we work to achieve our expectations?
We must always strive to set the bar higher on things like our prayer time, our Bible reading, our relationships and our time with our loved ones. Remember that each thing we do reflects our integrity and our belief in God's love for us.
Whatever your goals are for today, take a step back, consider them prayerfully, and then aim a little higher.

A Taste of Self-control
Lord, help me to become an achiever of the highest caliber. Help me desire more of You in my life and help me set the bar higher in sharing more love with others. Amen

Try to stand in front of your bathroom mirror and say three nice things to yourself. What did you say?
If you couldn't thing of three nice things to say to yourself, take and honest look at that. Being honest with yourself also means that you're being honest with God.
The idea behind this is not to get you to talk tenderly to yourself, although most of us need to do this more often. It's about getting to know who you are. If you don't know the truth about yourself, how can you expect others to really know who you are?
Go back to the mirror and take three deep breaths. Get acquainted with the person staring back at you and have an honest talk. This exercise could make the rest of your life more authentic and true.

Lord, help me to be honest with myself about the things that I believe and the choices I make. Above all, let me be honest with You. Amen

The Eeyores of the world who always see the gloomy side of life, are there to remind us that a positive and cheerful disposition is indeed an exquisite gift.
When we assume life is hard, then more often than not, we experience difficulties. When we assume it is positive and joyful, we receive much more joy and delight. It's all about having the right attitude.
Today, expect nothing but sunshine and show your positive attitude. You're bound to cheer up perfect strangers and yourself as well.

Kind, in Deed!

Don't get tired of helping others. You will be rewarded when the time is right, if you don't give up. We should help people whenever we can, especially if they are followers of the Lord.
Galatians 6:9-10

Everywhere we go, we are blessed to meet strangers who may become friends. We are traveling the universe in a way that will help us understand the needs of others.
On our journey through life, we recognize the importance of kindness. Kindness is a universal ******** and can be spoken by anyone at any time. Kindness embraces weak souls and downhearted spirits. It is an action that can change an attitude in an instant and a secret ingredient of love to be employed every chance you get.
Don't ever weary of being kind. The reward is both instant and ongoing. Let every deed be one of kindness.

Lord, help me to remember that everyone I meet is fighting a battle of their own and a little kindness could inspire their hearts and minds today. Amen

The Living Expression of God's Kindness

Mother Teresa was indeed a saint in our time. She shared her love, her heart and her faith with people every day. Her words provided inspiration to those around her and are worth reading on a daily basis.
She said:

" Spread love everywhere you go; first of all in your own house. Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. Be the living expression of God's kindness; kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile, kindness in your warm greeting."

Can you imagine being the "living expression of God's kindness?" See today what you can do to be just that.

The Kindness Business

Treating people well who do a job well is just as important as completing a job successfully. It's about the heart and not just the bottom line. Well, the bottom line for us is that kindness is always our business and we must never set it aside.
As the character of Scrooge says in Charles ****ens's, Christmas Carol, "Mankind is my business." Mankind, humankind, womankind, people kind … that's our business! We need a heart like Christ's when dealing with people at any time.
Our job today is to cultivate kindness and to share a heart of sympathy and love with those we meet.

A Taste of Kindness
Lord, since I enjoy my life so much more when others are kind to me, remind me that I can return the favor today. Amen
