Angelina Jolie's Goodwill Mission

Tending to her UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador duties, Angelina Jolie checked the living conditions of an Iraqi refugee family living in a suburb in Jaramana on Friday (October 2).
Traveling with partner Brad Pitt, the "Wanted" actress continues to do her part for improving the world - last paying a visit to Damascus back in 2007.



Of the effort, Miss Jolie told press: “Most Iraqi refugees cannot return to Iraq in view of the severe trauma they experienced there, the uncertainty linked to the coming Iraqi elections, the security issues and the lack of basic services. They will, therefore, be in need of continued support from the international community.”
Continuing on, Ang explained: “It is clear that the Syrian people, no matter the challenges or difficulties they may face, have always shown generous hospitality to people in need. I hope that the rest of the world recognizes that we all have to share this burden and continue to take care of Iraqi refugees

استقبل الرئيس بشار الأسد وعقيلته الممثلين الأمريكيين أنجيلينا جولي وبراد بيت وأطلعاهما على الجهود التي تبذلها سوريا لتأمين العناية الصحية للأكثر حاجة، ولتشجيع الأطفال اللاجئين على الذهاب إلى المدرسة.
وطالبت الممثلة أنجلينا جولي المجتمع الدولي بعدم "نسيان واجباته" حيال الأعداد الكبيرة من اللاجئين العراقيين .
وأعلنت المفوضية العليا للاجئين، في بيان، أن جولي زارت سوريا برفقة صديقها الممثل براد بيت، و زارت عائلات عراقية لاجئة إلى إحدى البلدات في ضواحي دمشق.
وقالت جولي أنه "من الواضح أنه مهما كانت الصعوبات والتحديات التي يواجهها السوريون، فقد تمكنوا دوما من إبداء كرم الضيافة حيال المحتاجين"، متمنية "أن ينتبه بقية العالم أنه علينا أن نتشارك العبء والاستمرار بالاهتمام باللاجئين العراقيين".
ورأت جولي أن "معظم اللاجئين العراقيين لا يملكون القدرة على العودة إلى بلادهم بسبب الصدمة الرهيبة التي عايشوها هنالك، وبسبب عدم الوضوح الذي تتركه مسألة الانتخابات المقبلة، والمسائل الأمنية ونقص الخدمات الأساسية.. ما يجعلهم بحاجة إلى دعم مستمر من المجتمع الدولي".
وزارت جولي و بيت بلدة جرمانا حيث التقيا بعائلات عراقية مقيمة في ظروف صعبة في أحد أحياء البلدة.
يذكر أن هذه الزيارة تعتبر الثانية من نوعها لجولي إلى سوريا خلال عامين ، وتشغل جولي منصب سفيرة الأمم المتحدة لشؤون اللاجئين .
